This makes so much sense. I’ve been a professional guitarist since the 80s so my muscle memory does let the thumb lead against the back of the neck during any position changes in order to keep the hand frame in a consistent position. One thing I’ve noticed in practicing the 3-octave G scale (which I learned from another one of your demonstrations) when descending, if I lighten my finger pressure and press more using the tip rather than sloppily on the finger pad, it’s a lot easier to play the notes clearly and brightly. In other words, more articulation. The other thing I noticed is if I practice my form slowly and intentionally rather than focusing on speed first, the thumb naturally wants to lead as long as I maintain the frame with my fingers. Thank you for your videos, you make it fun to learn😊

Thank you, thank you a thousand times!!!!🫶🏻 Ohh you know, I started to learn Wieniawski no.2 concerto recently and I just have to say that this video have just given me hope! I mean, I haven't played any fingered octaves before and when I tried it for the first time I freaked out... 😵‍💫I might be a beginner to say this, but it seemed to be impossible to play. (Also I have kind of small hands) Sorry for the long comment, I'm just really greatful for this video. ❤❤

Im 52 and haven't had formal lessons for 40 yrs. I'm currently trying to learn on my own. These last 40 yrs I just picked it up occasionally. But now want to play again. Right now I feel I am only playing for my own enjoyment and its a great stress reliever. Soon I want to find an online teacher. I'm in a small town where the school has no orchestra & no teachers I can go to. I would love to play at church or for crowds or events some day

Hello there, thank you for the very helpful videos! I have a question for you regarding something I am struggling a lot and it's very much related to the 1-2 low 2 finger pattern but in reverse.. so it goes like this: if we first need to play open string A, then C, then B, all of a sudden it gets impossible for my fingers because once I place the 2nd finger on C, then it's impossible to bring the first one close to it from the reverse side. When it is: A, B and C, it is easy and all the advice you gave here in this video works perfectly. But when we have to play them in reverse with the open string being first, that's when it gets impossible. Would you be kind enough to give me some advice regarding this ? Also strangely this does not happen on any other pair of closely related fingers like 2 and 3 or 3 and 4, since I can comfortably put 4 then 3, or 3 then 2. But if it comes to putting 2 first and then 1 close to it, it's mission impossible.

Hello! Thank you very much for this video, i have a few questions left! First one: is it normal that for every hand it kind of works differently, or maybe I'm just doing the curving motion wrong, because the space between my fingers always expands when curving, also does my pinky kind of slip off the bow which makes it hard to not drop it. I don't really know what the problem is. Also, when I straighten the fingers again, my middle finger is never completely straight, it's really hard to achieve that. And the next question: How can I use the colle stroke to improve my spiccato or overall weist flexibilty e.g. for bach partitas with quick notes and string crossings? Are there any general instructions of how to apply them to my spiccato /suatille bowing, or excercises? It would help me a lot!
